Local school visits Cupar Foodbank

26th September 2016

The children and young adults of Kilmaron School visited Cupar Foodbank on Tuesday 24th June. As supporters of the Foodbank the children regularly make contributions to our food store. The children were keen to learn how a Foodbank works and were involved in making up emergency food parcels prior to the school holiday.

School holidays can present challenging times to families on low incomes. The safety net of breakfast clubs and free school meals is unavailable to families during the summer break. I’m sure most of us can look back on our own childhoods, coming in from play and expressing to our parents that we are “starving”. Fortunately, most of us won’t have been starving. However, many children are, and recent statistics highlight that parents have been going hungry to feed their kids.

Cupar Foodbank is available to any family or individual struggling to put food on the table, and we would urge anyone in this position to use the Foodbank. Vouchers can be obtained from Citizens Advice and Rights Fife, Fife Council and Fife Voluntary Action. Many other organisations who provide services to individuals can also refer their clients, so it’s worth asking your service provider if they provide food vouchers.
